3 Simple Tips for IELTS Academic Reading Task Type 9


IELTS Academic Reading Task Type 9: Summary/Note/Table/Flow-chart Completion

In this reading task type, test takers are given a reading text, and are required to answer the following question types:

        ·         A summary of a text. (Summary) 
        ·         Several notes discussing a specific topic in the text. (Note)
        ·         A table showing the relationship of ideas used in a text. (Table)
·         A series of boxes or steps connected by arrows to show a sequence of events in the text. (Flow-chart)

Keep in mind that the summary and the note questions contain several gaps, while the table and flow-chart questions consist of some empty boxes. The task is to fill in those gaps and empty boxes. The instructions will guide the examinee on how many words are required in each gap or empty box. This reading task measures the test taker’s ability to understand details and the main ideas of a text.
